Hollow glass Microspheres (HGM) are a kind of inorganic nonmetallic materials with Hollow spheres as powder, and their main components are alkali lime borosilicate glass. Its true density is 0.2g/ cm3-0.7g /cm3, particle size is 2μ m-125 μm, wall thickness is 1-2μm, its cavity is thin nitrogen. Hollow glass beads not only have the characteristics of light weight, small particle size, high strength, good fluidity, low oil absorption rate, strong inertia, low thermal conductivity, good thermal stability, corrosion resistance, but also has excellent performance of heat insulation, sound insulation, insulation and so on. It is a high quality filler for heat insulation coating, thermosetting/plastic plastic, foam plastic, glass fiber reinforced plastic, artificial stone, synthetic wood, sealant, floating material; It is a functional filler for lightweight packaging materials, absorbing materials and PCB substrates in the electronic industry. It is an excellent sensitizer and stabilizer for emulsion explosive. It is an effective mitigating agent for low density drilling fluid and low density cementing slurry in oil and gas field exploitation. Hollow glass microsphere is a new kind of lightweight material with wide application and excellent performance developed in recent years, which is known as "space age material".
1. Application in thermoplastic resin
Hollow glass microspheres, as a new high-performance lightweight material, can be filled with polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), polyamide (PA), polyformaldehyde (POM), polycarbonate (PC), polyphenyl ether, polysulfone and other thermoplastic resins and rubber. And widely used in pipelines, flooring, electrical shell, stationery, tools, crafts, packaging materials, automobile and machine parts and other fields. Hollow glass beads function as follows: reduce the weight of products, improve the dimensional stability of products, improve the hardness and wear resistance of products.
2. Application in thermosetting resins
Hollow glass beads can be filled to the polyurethane (PU) and epoxy resin (EP), phenolic resin (PF), unsaturated polyester (UP), melamine (MF) and so on thermosetting resin, and is widely used in building and industrial insulation materials, packaging materials, plywood, printed circuit board, sports equipment, furniture, appliances shell, auto parts and other fields, its action is as follows: Reduce the weight of products, improve the hardness of products, improve the heat resistance and electrical insulation of products, improve the physical and mechanical properties of products.
For example: the popularity of new energy vehicles, car = lightweight is to reduce the overall quality of the car as much as possible on the premise of ensuring the strength and safety performance of the car, so as to improve the power of the car a general trend.
The weight reduction of the car is mainly applied to the following aspects: 1) Body parts: including body shell, hard top of the hood, skylight, door, radiator grille, headlight reflector, front and rear bumpers, and interior parts; 2) Structural parts: including front bracket, bumper frame, seat frame, floor, etc.; 3) Functional parts: its main characteristics are high temperature resistance, oil resistance and corrosion resistance. Such as: engine cover, air filter cover, gear chamber cover, air hood, inlet pipe protection plate, fan blade, fan guide ring, heater cover plate, engine sound insulation plate, etc.
3. Application in FRP products
FRP has the advantages of low density, high strength, strong corrosion resistance, good electrical insulation and heat resistance, and is widely used in chemical storage tanks, pipelines, pultrusion profiles and towers. However, FRP also has its own shortcomings, such as low elastic modulus, easy deformation, aging resistance and poor long-term temperature resistance, adding hollow glass beads to FRP can significantly improve the above shortcomings.
Its functions are as follows: improve the elastic modulus and hardness of products, good dimensional stability of products, improve the aging resistance of products, improve the long-term temperature resistance of products.
